Self-supported
A true
gravel adventure
Transylvania Trail is a self-supported bikepacking event threading raw gravel through Saxon villages, rolling hills, and timeless Transylvanian landscapes. The route strings together the kind of riding any bikepacker wishes for: long days on a changing mix of gravel tracks, forest roads, quiet tarmac, and the occasional single-track, linking ridge-lines, working farms, and historic fortified settlements in one loop route. You’ll pass medieval hamlets, river valleys, art cities, rolling meadows, and fortified churches where sheep, farm dogs, and everyday rural life are part of the trail, not just the backdrop.
It’s a demanding but generous riding: 520 km and over 7,200 meters of climbing, with surfaces that are sometimes fast and sometimes slow, and sections that take more out of you than the map suggests. In return you get real places to sleep and eat, local food and hospitality at the end of each day, and the feeling of crossing a distinct corner of Europe at a speed where the landscape, the people, and the effort all stay with you.
NOT A RACE
There’s a certain kind of freedom that exists only when you’re truly self-reliant. No support vehicle to catch you if things go wrong. No predetermined stops. Just you, your bike, and the choice to shape your own journey.
This is not a race. There are no prizes for finishing first and no time limits for finishing last. The only competition is with yesterday’s version of yourself.
Discover
Ride through some of Europe’s most ancient forests and centuries-old villages. A landscape layered with history, where people still work the land.
Challenge
520 kilometers. Over 7,200 meters of climbing. Managing your own effort over sustained terrain reveals something about yourself.
Connect
You'll know exactly what other riders are going through. Connection happens when people choose the same hard thing.
The Soul
of the Trail
This is a journey for the senses. Wood smoke drifts through the crisp morning air. The steady crunch of your tires on ancient gravel. The silence of old forests broken only by your breathing and the rhythm of the pedals.
You’ll ride roads laid down centuries ago, past fortified churches whose walls carry stories of sieges long forgotten. Through villages where life still follows the land and the seasons. Shepherds tend flocks on hills that have watched them for generations. Families work small farms by hand. Hay is gathered under wide skies.
The STORY Begins in 2026
The first edition of any adventure is special. It’s a blank map, a story waiting to be written. This is your chance to shape the spirit of the trail for all who follow.
